What To Wear to a Dance Class?

So it's your first dance class and you don’t know what to wear or bring?  We got you covered!

1) Indoor/Dance Shoes

We recommend indoor sneakers for classes such as choreography, jazz funk, hip hop, popping, and waacking. Pro tip: look for a shoe with a low sole to keep you grounded and less chance of a rolled ankle. Here’s what people at Studio North Toronto have been wearing:

Contemporary dance classes are typically barefoot. For heels classes, we recommend bringing a pair of heels you feel comfortable walking in. Heels aren’t mandatory but are recommended for these classes! Wondering what type of heels to bring? Take it from one of our Heels instructors, Elisha Ladeza:

“The unofficial “official” dance heel is from a brand called BURJU — a dance shoe company that started making heels specifically for commercial heels dancing. They’re amazing; definitely an investment but worth it. Otherwise, I typically suggest my students look at stores like Call It Spring, The Bay, or even Amazon. I always suggest a “bootie” style that goes to or above the ankle to offer support.” — Elisha Ladeza

2) Clothes that make you feel good

We believe if you feel good in what you’re wearing, you’ll move better too! Aim for comfortable clothes that don’t restrict your movement. Common staples in class are t-shirts, sweatpants, joggers, and leggings.

Still unsure what to wear? Check out our Studio North Merch available at our front desk, perfect for dancing in!

3) Water Bottle

As you will sweat in class, a water bottle is a MUST to keep you hydrated. Staying hydrated during class will help you stay focused and refreshed!

4) Extra Pair of Clothes + A Towel

Expect to get sweaty in class when you're working hard and having fun! A towel is excellent for wiping off sweat during class. Also, an extra set of clothes is helpful after class, so you don't have to sit in your sweat on your commute home! Feel free to use our gender-neutral change rooms located in our lounge upstairs!

Now that you know what to bring to dance class, it's time to book that class! Book your next dance class at Studio North Toronto here.
