Studio North Toronto.
Welcome to the Faculty Portal.
Our Policies
-
Faculty have two (2) guest spots available for classes with 20 dancers or less. For classes exceeding 20 dancers, an additional one (1) guest spot will be available for a maximum of three (3) guests spots per class. The guest policy applies per class, not per teacher. If faculty are collaborating with another teacher, the guest policy remains the same. Please notify our front desk staff of who will be guesting class ahead of time.
-
Classes with fewer than 4 dancers registered two hours before class will be cancelled. This policy is designed to ensure the sustainability of the studio and strength of our class schedule. While 4 dancers is the minimum requirement, our goal is to consistently see at least 10 dancers per class — not only to keep the studio thriving but also to ensure our teachers hit their per-head bonus.
For this reason, we encourage our faculty to advertise their classes ahead of time and and encourage dancers to pre-register on our app instead of showing up on the day of. Class registration opens up 7 days before the scheduled class (15 days for Pro, Elite, and VIP members). Our team will inform you 2 hours beforehand if we do not meet the 4 dancer minimum threshold.
-
Out of respect to the other teachers, students, and our front desk staff, we kindly request to please end classes on time. Our front desk team will let you know how much time you have left. If you plan on doing groups at the end of class, we recommend starting groups 10-15 minutes prior to class scheduled end time. As we tend to have back-to-back classes, please exit the studio once your class has finished; we have a dedicated lounge for faculty to chat with students after class. If you go over, our videographer may have to leave mid-group to film another class.
-
By taking on a weekly slot, it’s expected that you will teach the majority of your classes, while understanding that occasional subs may be needed.
We kindly ask you plan in advance and communicate as much as you can if you require a sub. To provide the best possible experience for our dancers, if you are consistently subbing out your classes and teach less than 75% of your scheduled weekly classes within a month, we’ll have a conversation to reassess whether a weekly slot is the best fit or if alternatives, like subbing or pop-up classes, might work better.
When arranging a sub, it's your responsibility to select someone from the approved teacher sub list and notify studio management. Please ensure the sub teaches the same level and style as your class to maintain consistency for our schedule and your students’ progress.
-
The groups that are included in the "group video" are at the discretion of the editor and our marketing team. There are a number of factors when deciding which groups to include such as quality of footage (lighting, framing, focus) and capacity of our editors. Should students not find their specific group in the video, we try to remind them that class footage should be a bonus and used as a tool, not the main focus of taking class.
We do not give out raw class footage as it needs to be color graded, edited and overlayed with music.
We recommend filming between 5-7 groups and will record a maximum of 10 groups.
-
Out of respect for you and other students in class, dancers arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted into class. If you have an assistant or guest that is running late, that’s totally fine just let our front desk staff know. The reason for this rule is to encourage dancers to show up on time, and to prevent any latecomers from affecting the class flow.
Studio Rentals
Due to the high volume of requests, please use the form below to book studio space. Requests must be made 24 hours in advance; requests made within 24 hours may not be guaranteed.
Class Footage
We edit a special version of class footage for our faculty so it’s easier to download and share their work without groups.
About Us
-
At Studio North, our vision has always been to provide a home for the dance community; a place where dancers are loved, supported, and pushed to their greatest potential through a world-class experience.
While Studio North didn’t open until 2019, you could say we created our first “Studio North experience” back in 2011 with the birth of our respective dance teams; Brotherhood and Style & Grace. Over the past 10 years, we’ve been devoted to investing into the next generation of dancers, pushing them to their greatest potential, and putting Canada on the map.
While we experienced tremendous success with both teams over the years winning multiple international competitions, we realized something was missing; a place we could call our own. At the same time, we noticed there was a need in Vancouver for a professionally run studio that was ABOUT the community; a hub for dancers wanting to level up their training as well as a platform for the amazing talent in our city. So with our life savings in hand, we set out on our mission to create a home for our dance community. Consulting with the top talent in the sound, lighting, and construction industry, we built a state-of-the-art dance facility and in June of 2019 we opened our first location: Studio North Vancouver!
In April 2020, we launched Studio North TV - our very own online dance platform that allowed dancers from all over the world to train with our amazing faculty from the comfort of their homes.
In 2020, we noticed a similar need for a community-based dance studio in another major Canadian city: Toronto. So in November 2020 during the height of the pandemic, we moved to Toronto for eight months and built our second location, Studio North Toronto, a 10,000 sq ft facility located in the heart of Toronto. We opened our doors July 31st, 2021 and have been blessed to play a part in the recent growth of Toronto’s dance community.
As we’ve continued to grow, we’ve come to realize that Studio North is much more than just a dance studio – we’re on a mission to build community, provide opportunities for personal and professional development, and help dancers make their dreams become a reality. Our vision is to see dance communities around the world transformed by the Studio North experience. -
To provide a home for the dance community where dancers are loved, supported, and pushed to their greatest potential through a world-class experience.
